i had always hated seeing tall bikes w/ the little bit of tube welded inbetween two bits of fork. you can't adjust the bearings or service them w/ grease or replace them if you should ever need to w/ out the use of a torch or hacksaw. i've also seen a lot of the taller choppers stress their head tube bearings into dust. i think the answer for all this is using bottom brackets as head tubes. you can drop the bottom nuts off this and remove the fork and transport it or whatever. also w/ the massive amout of threaded area you andjust the two sets of bearings to pretty much match each other in tension and location ! then the garage burned down. damn. also, you really gotta log some grinder time to cut through the old 1-piece cranks, they are fighters !! |
