(de)construction
works in progress
here we hope to enlighten our followers to the ways and ways not to do stuff. it will be a magical journey and hopfully we all won't need tetnus shots when we're done. but, who knows ?
you'll need some tools and keep in mind there is a right way and a wrong way to do stuff. the majority of people wouldn't be doing this so,they are  all wrong. enough said
having at least one cache of  "spare parts" i.e. junk always is a good  thing.
1. hammers are really handy to have. so are ford wrenches, other big wrenchs, loose bits of pipe, etc. etc. because you know darn well that even if you measure stuff out good and make straight cuts you'll need to whack some stuff no matter what !
2. saws. one could also cut stuff w/ pipe cutters or torches but lets not get fancy. a good hack saw and a bunch of crappy blades goes along way.
3.lots of old wrenches, allen keys, screw drivers ground out to odd shapes, pipes to be used as extensions when the going gets tough, a vise if you're lucky enough,  and maybe some sort of stand or table to whack stuff on. the ground also works fine !
since we don't have a garage or anything  like that most of our work is done outside, often at night, in the dark, while it's raining. luckily we still had some daylight while "fixing" up little pete
use what ya' got. a good leather  belt makes up for some really missaligned fork legs !
4.some kind of welder.-this is more of a big budget item as most people already have the above mentioned stuff. with any luck someone you know has a welder., trade them beer and friendship for their services. most of the stuff we do doesn't really need to be welded. band clamps, duct tape and bubble gum, epoxies and what not, along with well thought  out construction and sleeving will do. but who likes fire  and sparks ? me !!
5.grinders-like the good people of scul said "our welds look like hamburger helper "
we are ok with this. but all those jagged lumps of crap tend to catch on stuff and are just unslightly. plus grinders can clean off areas you're gonna weld really well and quick, snoog ! plus they make a lot of sparks !! double snoog !
i'm a bad-assed welding mo-fo, word !
quick tutorial on welding. we just got a welder and i showed every one how to(mis)use it. we had alreday nuked a transformer and blown the circute brakers in the house many, many times.
notice dan has the welder and i have the slag hammer.-in the background you can see the "dualie" double rim paul and i built.
dan was having problems w/ the welder. it seems to work fine to me.
this is later at jake's house. we had a miller  mig welder. top notch stuff !!
since we don't have a pipe bender we gotta make do w/ a little "brute force" somthimes. just toss extension pipes onto what needs bent, grunt, and there ya' go. sometimes you may need to pound whatever you just bent flat, they somtimes get a little english on 'em.
